A grand event to recognize the contribution and leadership of Bangladeshi engineers.
The 77th Engineers Day was celebrated in a dignified atmosphere with the participation of Bangladeshi expatriate engineers at the Ewan Hotel Hallroom in Sharjah. The event, organized by NRB Engineers and Architects, UAE, was not just a day celebration, but also a unique platform to honor the collective strength, future plans and contributions of Bangladeshi expatriate engineers to national development.
The event became a gathering of about two hundred engineers and professionals from different cities of the UAE. Bangladeshi engineers working in different sectors presented their experiences, skills and success stories. In addition, there was a discussion on how Bangladeshi engineers can be more strongly represented in the global arena with the change of generation.
The event was hosted by Engineer Mainul Islam and chaired by Engineer Moazzem Hossain, President of NRB Engineers and Architects, UAE and President of Bangladesh Association UAE. In his speech, he called for maintaining professional ethics and commitment towards engineers and said, “Engineers form the foundation of a country’s development. If we work professionally even while abroad, that knowledge and experience will become an asset for the country as well.”

General Secretary Engineer Shahidul Islam, who is also known as the Chairman of Hudaibia Group, said in his speech, “Engineering is not just a job, it is a responsibility. Just as we are successfully fulfilling our responsibilities abroad, we also need to utilize our knowledge and experience for the country.”
He proposed to involve expatriate engineers as consultants in Bangladesh so that the country can benefit through ‘Reverse Brain Drain.’
The new leadership of the Central Committee of NRB Engineers and Architects, UAE was announced at the event: President, Engineer Moazzem Hossain, General Secretary, Engineer Shahidul Islam and Organizing Secretary Engineer M. Mainul Islam (currently President of Dubai Chapter).
The new committee of NRB Engineers and Architects Abu Dhabi is headed by Engineer AKM Nizam and Secretary Engineer Nazrul Islam, with Engineer Imran as the Organizing Secretary.
In addition, the committees of each state in the Emirates were officially announced and it was decided that the President, General Secretary and Organizing Secretary of each state committee will serve as members of the Central Committee. The responsibilities of the separate secretariats will be determined later.
Several important demands were presented to the government for the welfare of expatriate engineers at the event. A call was made to increase their professional status and opportunities by introducing a ‘professional visa’ facility for engineers working in the UAE. A proposal was also made to involve engineers who have gained experience working abroad for a long time as consultants in various government and private projects in Bangladesh under the ‘Reverse Brain Drain’. In addition, a demand was made to introduce government-supported health insurance benefits for these professionals.
The Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh (IEB) was urged to approve expatriate chapters in cities where there are at least 25 members. At the same time, a demand was made to create multiple posts designated for expatriate engineers in the IEB central committee, so that their views and experience are reflected in the main policy-making of the organization.

Leaders of various states and chapters and eminent engineers presented their valuable speeches at the event. Among the speakers were Dr. Matiur Rahman, AKM Nizam, Abul Hossain Mukul, Dr. Miftahul Khodam, Masud Parvez (Secretary, Bangladesh Association Fujairah and President, NRB Engineers Fujairah), Md. Akiqur Rahman, Tabibur Rahman, Tanvir Ahmed, Abdul Matin, Amjad Hossain, Habibur Rahman Kabir, Mohammad Ali, Biko Roy, Aminul Islam Lavlu and many others. They said that NRB engineers working in different parts of the world are brightening the image of Bangladesh in the international arena through their professionalism and expertise. Their experience and collective initiatives can play an important role in the sustainable development and progress of Bangladesh.
