BNP UAE Commemorates 44th Martyrdom Anniversary of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman

Ashik Islam, UAE: Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), UAE chapter, solemnly observed the 44th martyrdom anniversary of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman with due respect and solemnity. A Khatm-e-Quran, discussion, and prayer session were organized at a local restaurant in Sharjah to mark the occasion.

The discussion meeting, held on Sunday, June 1st, in a hall at a Sharjah restaurant, was presided over by Rafiqul Islam, a member of the UAE BNP Convening Committee and Convenor of Dubai BNP. The event, moderated by S.M. Modasser Shah, a member of UAE BNP, saw speeches from Amirul Islam Chowdhury, Engineer Mahe Alam, Shamsun Nahar Swapna, Engineer Karimul Haque, all members of the UAE BNP Convening Committee. Also speaking were Shahin, President of Ajman BNP, Shahadat Hossain Sumon, H.M. Ershad, Abul Basar, Mojibul Haque Monju, President of Dubai BNP, and BNP leaders C.I.P. Jahangir Alam and Sheikh Selim. BNP leaders, activists, supporters, and well-wishers from various provinces were also present. The session began with a special prayer for the salvation of the souls of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman and all martyrs who sacrificed their lives in Bangladesh’s War of Independence.

During the discussion, speakers fondly remembered Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman’s illustrious political life, patriotism, and his immense contributions to nation-building. They stated, “Ziaur Rahman was not just a sector commander and a successful statesman; he was the visionary of modern Bangladesh. It was under his leadership that multi-party democracy was re-established in Bangladesh, and a new era of economic development was ushered in.”

The speakers further noted, “Ziaur Rahman dreamt of making Bangladesh self-reliant and initiated countless public welfare programs, including the introduction of modern agricultural methods for farmers, canal digging projects, and the establishment of the Gram Sarkar (village government) system. Under his far-sighted leadership, Bangladesh achieved a respectable position in the international arena. The process of sending workers to the Middle East was also initiated by Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman.”

Leaders of the BNP’s UAE chapter also addressed the current political situation in their speeches, vowing to work unitedly under the leadership of Begum Khaleda Zia and Acting Chairman Tareque Rahman to restore democracy in the country.

Other speakers at the event included Fazlur Rahman Pappu Khan, Aminul Islam Tipu, Tariqul Islam, Zakaria Rashed, Shah Alam, Ismail Hossain, Ershad Contractor, Rubel Chowdhury, and Rezaul Karim, among others.

Attendees expressed their commitment to building a prosperous and democratic Bangladesh by following the ideals and principles of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman. Tabarruk (blessed food) was distributed after the prayer session.

This commemorative meeting and prayer session not only paid tribute to Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman but also played a significant role in rekindling democratic values and nationalist spirit among Bangladeshis living abroad.
