Dubai: 8-year-old girl finds Dh17,000 lost cash in cinema, returns to police

An eight-year-old girl was awarded for her honesty after she returned Dh17,000 in cash that she found in a mall’s cinema, the Dubai Police announced on Sunday.

Lily Jamal Ramadan, an Egyptian expat, was sitting on a bench, waiting for her parents to buy the movie tickets, when she discovered the lost money. Lily was quick to inform her parents of the missing valuables.

Her father, surprised by the amount, immediately rushed with his family to Al Rashidiya Police Station to hand over the cash. Coincidentally, the owner of the money was at the station to report it missing and was amazed to find the full amount returned.

Lily was honoured by Major General Expert Khalil Ibrahim Al Mansoori, Assistant Commander for Criminal Investigation, for her remarkable honesty and integrity.

Al Mansoori praised Lily’s commendable actions, emphasising the importance of instilling values of honesty in children, which ultimately benefits society as a whole.

The official also added that recognising the girl in front of her family would reinforce the importance of her positive actions and inspire others to follow her example.

This is not the first time the authority honoured residents for their impactful actions.

On April 18, Dubai Police honoured a citizen who returned a lost passport and money he found. On April 5, the authority honoured two residents for returning lost jewellery and money to Naif Police Station.

In another incident, a tourist was awarded for handing over a piece of gold jewellery that she found in a popular tourist area.

Meanwhile, during 2024, the authority honoured two residents for their cooperation and ethical conduct on September 6. In October, the police honoured an Indian expat for returning Dh100,000 cash to the authority.
